MISSION GIRLS U19’s TAKE POINT CUP TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP

The Mission Girls U19’s went undefeated capturing the Point Cup AAA U19 championship over the weekend of September 22-24 in Steven’s Point, Wisconsin.  After getting their game together with a 3-3 exhibition tie against the Providence Catholic H.S. Boys’ Varsity, the U19’s headed to Stevens Point for their first test of the season.

The Mission started off strong with decisive victories over Sault St. Marie (Ontario, Canada) 5-0, and the DC Diamonds (Wisconsin) 10-0.  The Mission held off a strong MWEHL rival Madison Capitals team before opening the scoring and finishing with a 7-1 victory.  Next up was another MWEHL foe, Wisconsin Wild, to determine the top seed for the playoffs.  In what proved to be the Mission’s toughest test so far, the U19’s rallied to score late in the third period for a 2-1 victory and the top seed in the semifinals.

In semifinal play, the Mission again defeated the Capitals 6-3 to earn a spot in the Championship against the Wild, which was physical and fast paced.  The two, 25-minute half format worked to the Mission’s advantage, as the U19’s outlasted the Wild to 2-0 victory.  Team conditioning, the tenacious play of the entire forward corps, the solid veteran play of the defense, and the stand-out performances of both goalies gave the Mission Girls U19’s their first Tournament victory.  The Mission is now 6-0-1 with their next game October 6th v. CYA

U19’s CROWNED MINNESOTA THOROUGHBREDS TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS

The Mission Girls U19’s remained undefeated this season in tournaments play en route to the Minnesota Thoroughbreds Tournament Championship over the Thanksgiving Weekend.  The U19’s traveled to Minnesota Tournament with a 9-0 record in their previous 2 tournaments, and are now 14-0 in tournament play for the season.

The Mission held all opponents scoreless in round-robin play with decisive victories over Northwest Selects 8-0, Culver Varsity 7-0, and the Thunder Bay  8-0.  The Mission then added their fourth straight shut-out with a 5-0 victory over previous unbeaten Balmoral in the semi-finals.  The win set a championship game versus undefeated host, Minnesota Thoroughbreds.  The Mission did not disappoint, capping the tourney with a 2-1 finish.

With the season approximately half-over, the Mission is now 27-2-1.
