JOE ABATE COMMITS TO THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN

Joe Abate is a power forward that has shown a blend of skill a competitiveness early on in the season for the Chicago Mission U16 team.  Joe is a hard working player that is very dedicated to his on ice development as well as his academics.

There had been a lot of interest in Joe from the early part of September. By the end of the month Joe had narrowed his choice of schools down to a couple.

Joe will be the 6th Mission skater to become a Badger in recent years.

The Chicago Mission would like to congratulate Joe and the Abate Family on his commitment to University of Wisconsin.

ADAM BAUGHMAN commits to HARVARD

Adam Baughman, presently playing in the Alberta Junior Hockey league with the Brooks Bandits recently made his commitment to Harvard for the 2016-2017 season. Adam, who is listed at 6’4” and 215lbs. was a standout defensemen for the Chicago Mission while playing here as a Bantam Major and Midget Minor. Both years he was instrumental in solidifying the defense while helping the team reach the USA Hockey National Championships in both cases.

Adam is a mobile puck carrying defense not typical of a player of his size. He has the ability to quarterback the power play while cover a lot of ice with his size.

Adam played his last year in Chicago with CYA followed by a season in Connecticut at the Salisbury School. An excellent student, Harvard will be a great fit for Adam and they will be lucky to have him.

Chicago Mission would like to congratulate Adam and the Baughman family on his future D1 career at Harvard.

JOSEPH KEANE of Chicago Mission U16 team commits to Miami of Ohio 

Joey has been one of the most consistent players at his position for the past number of years on the 1999 birth year team. He is a stalwart defensemen and was an instrumental player on the team when they won Nationals as a Peewee Major and was a key player in helping this team get to Nationals as a Bantam Major, losing to the Shattuck in the National Championship game.

Joey has been at the defense position since he started here at the Mission. Listed as his key attributes is gritty play, mobility and overpowering shot. He has an uncanny ability to get out of trouble and make good decisions under pressure. His rugged style of play keeps opposing teams’ forwards on their heels when he is on the ice.

The Chicago Mission would like to congratulate Joey and his family on a wonderful opportunity to continue his career at Miami of Ohio.

Chicago Mission U16 GRAHAM SLAGGERT COMMITS TO UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME

Graham is the 3rd 1999 birth year player from the Mission to make his D1 commitment. His choice comes as no surprise since his father Andy played there from 1985-1989 and has been a coach on the team the last 22 years.

Graham has been a dominant player at this age level since joining the club 6 years ago. A left shooting forward with a keen sense for the game and ability to be a game changer. You can list the many attributes of his game which sets him apart from his peers including his speed, hard shot and goal scoring touch. His biggest asset however is his commitment to team play and his willingness to listen and do whatever it takes for the success of his team. He was a big factor in the teams National Championship win at Peewee Majors and the teams return to Nationals as a Bantam Major losing to Shattuck in the National Championship final game this past year.

Cole Coskey of Chicago Mission U16 team commits to Miami of Ohio
 

Cole has been one of the top players at his position for the past number of years at the 1999 birth year. Skating predominately on the right wing Cole has developed into a great power forward with above average hockey sense and an ability to find the net.

Former Chicago Mission standout William Knierim who will play for the  Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL this upcoming season has been selected to represent the United States during the Under 17 Five Nations Tournament in Crimmitschau, Germany from August 13-17.    Article

Steffanos Lekkas Commits to the University of Vermont
 
Former Chicago Mission 1996 standout goalie commits to Vermont. After spending the last two years playing for the Springfield Jr. Blues of the NAHL Steffanos is on his way to his Division I dream. No surprise to his former coaches, Steffanos was a fierce competitor while playing for the Mission. His last youth game was versus the Long Island Royals the eventual 2012 U16 National Champions losing in the semi final game which went in to overtime.

William Knierim Commits to Miami

William today announced his verbal commitment to play D1 for the Miami Redhawks.  A big power forward (6’3” 207lb.) with great hands around the net and plays with an edge.

His play has not gone unnoticed as he was recently drafted in the 2nd round by Owen Sound of the OHL and tendered by Dubuque of the USHL just this week.

“Willie is a fierce competitor who strives for perfection.  He has the ability and potential to dictate a game and has really developed into an impact player.  Willie is a respectable young man determined to succeed at the highest level. DOMINICK MERSCH Commits to Wisconsin
 
Following in his brothers footsteps Dominick Mersch will also wear the Badger jersey in the not so distant future. Having verbally committed this past weekend he is slated for the fall of 2017. The decision was not very difficult having watched his older brother Michael play for the Badgers the last four years.
 
Dominick is a player that plays with an abundance of grit, determination and passion for the game. His physical play and willingness to compete in high traffic areas allows for him to be a difference maker in every game. 
 
“As a young 98’ the most impressive asset about Dom is not just his ability and skill but the quality in his leadership.  He is a fervent competitor and has matured into a true leader. SEAN DHOOGHEI commits to OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY
 
Sean Dhooghe announces verbal commitment to Ohio State this past week and is slated to attend the school in 2017. A driving force in his decision making was the opportunity to play alongside his brother Jason who had also committed to Ohio State this past fall. Sean will bring his passion for the game to the Buckeyes as he has since joining the Chicago Mission as a Squirt Major.

Over this span, Sean along with his fellow 1999 birth year teammates, have been one of the most dominant teams in North America. During the last five years he has lead this team to a 293-32-14 record while winning virtually every tournament entered including a pair of Silver Stick Championships at Peewee Major and Bantam Major along with a USA Hockey Peewee National Championship and most recently USA Hockey Bantam National Finalist.

“He is a driving force who cannot be contained. He does everything well and it is not often a player of his ilk comes along. His hockey IQ is off the charts and he knows how to take full advantage of his ability. What separates him from his peers is his capacity to make everyone around him better. TANNER LACZYNSKI commits to OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY
 

Chicago Mission is proud to announce yet another college commitment. Tanner is a player who has dedicated himself to the game he loves and who is now being rewarded with an early commitment.  Tanner will bring his elite stick skills and great vision for the game to the Buckyeys.  His production and development over the years has set himself up to experience his dream of playing college hockey. Another player from the National Championship Midget Minor U16 team last season, Tanner was rewarded with his strong play at Nationals and was taken by the Chicago Steel of the USHL in the futures draft last spring.
“He has been a positive asset to every team he has been on and I’m confident he will continue this trend. It’s been a privilege watching Tanner mature over the years. VASILI KOLIAS commits to BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Vasili “Vas” Kolias has turned heads with his skating and puck handling ability since joining the Mission six years ago. His dedications to the game and his work ethic have allowed for him to evolve into one of the premier players in the country at his age. He was an integral part of the National Championship Midget Minor U16 team last season. His performance earned him a 21st overall selection to Indiana Ice (USHL) in their futures draft last spring. This was followed by another selection to the National USA camp last summer where he then was recognized by National Team coaches and became one of three Chicago Mission players (Dello-Notre Dame, Floodstarnd-Harvard) named to U.S. Under-17 Select Team to play in Five Nations Tournament Aug. 14-18 in Trnava, Slovakia this past August.  He is only the second Mission player to ever commit to BU.

Is it rare for a Chicago student athlete to have the opportunity to play at BU.  The Chicago Mission organization prides itself in developing it’s student athletes in an environment which allows for them to fulfill their academic and athletic dreams. Having had multiple D1 offers Boston University coaching staff is thrilled to have him and “Vas” will undoubtedly be a tremendous asset to a perennial top Division I hockey program.”

Hugh McGing commits to Western Michigan University
 
Hugh is a special player. His enthusiasm and work ethic is undeniable.  He’s a true competitor in every sense of the word and his commitment to WMU is a great fit for his academic and athletic goals. He will be an elite player for many years and I look forward to following his career.  It’s always great to see good things happen to good people.   I wish Hugh and the McGing family much success.

MICHAEL FLOODSTRAND commits to HARVARD

Michael Floodstrand’s consistent work ethic and commitment to the game has earned him many opportunities which he has taken full advantage of.  Coming off injuries as a Bantam Major Michael was able to return to elite level of play while helping the Midget Minor U16 team win a National Championship last season. Along the way he turned heads and proved himself to earn a spot with the NTDP this season alongside former Mission teammates Christian Fischer (Notre Dame) and Ryan Wagner (Wisconsin). Michael’s commitment to Harvard goes hand in hand with his elite level of play and more importantly his dedication to academics.

JASON DHOOGHE commits to OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY

Jason Dhooghe’s commitment to Ohio State University is a compliment to his character.  His passion for the game is evident every shift he plays and his speed will be a great asset at the next levels. After fielding multiple college offers Jason’s decision comes as no surprise to his coaching staff or teammates. Jason, was an integral player in the teams Midget Minor U16 playoff run last year culminating in a National Championship. Jason was drafted into the USHL by Sioux City in 2013.

“Jason’s continued work and perseverance on and off the ice has set him up to have a great year and will prepare him for a very bright future as a NCAA student-athlete.  We are all extremely proud of Jason and congratulations to the Dhooghe family.”

The Chicago Mission would like to congratulate U16 defenseman, Mikey Joyaux, on his verbal commitment to Miami University. Mikey will become the third Joyaux boy to lace them up for the Redhawks. "Mikey's skating ability, abilities to make the right plays with the puck, his willingness to compete in high traffic areas, and his knowledge of the game make him an all around complete package when you're looking at today's defensemen. You can't just be a defensive defensemen or an offensive defensemen in today's game, you have to be able to do both and Mikey sets himself apart by doing just that at a very high level. He's another one of the terrific group of young men I was privileged to coach and I look forward to watching him continue to develop at the next levels. " said Coach Chris Michael. The Chicago Mission would like to congratulate U16 Forward, Christian Fischer, on his verbal commitment with the University of Notre Dame.  Christian entered his sixth season with the Mission as a very highly touted forward at the 1997 age level and has lived up to the expectations thus far.  “Christian is an all around, complete hockey player with his size and strength allowing him to be a physical force on the ice, while his skill set and vision allow him to be a creative and offensive threat every time he’s on the ice. Christian is a student of the game and takes pride in what he does every single day on and off the ice.  His approach and respect for the game has allowed him to mature and develop at a very rapid pace and that’s a big reason he was so sought after by many high-end Universities.  He’s a terrific young man whose future is very, very bright and it’ll definitely be fun watching his development over the next few years” said U16 Head Coach Chris Michael. Mission U16 Boys commitments keep mounting

Two more players from the Mission U16 team make commitments bringing the total to 6. Bobby Nardella (96) makes verbal commitment to Notre Dame and Peter Tischke (96) makes verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin. Bobby will again be a teammate with Anders Bjork, while Peter Tischke will be joining fellow teammates Seamus Malone and Jake Linhart. Nick Schmaltz is headed to North Dakota.
